Bangkok: Thailand, 2015

Took a morning flight from Singapore to Bangkok, the land of EAT,SHOP&SLEEP! From Bangkok airport, you can get a 7-days SIM card at 299Baht with 1.5GB of 3G data usage, which I feel is more than enough for my 4 days trip. After purchasing and ensuring that the SIM card works, we proceeded to the basement to take a cab to our hotel, Novotel Platinum. Please choose a cab that goes by meter and not by per trip basis. The trip should cost about 320baht(inclusive of all the taxes and toll fees). Some cab uncle tends to go by per trip and they will quote you 400-500baht.

The first stop was to the famous Wanton Mee(Soi 19 Petchaburi Road) that many Singaporeans or Malaysians will come to queue for. Please remember to order their pig intestines as well, taste very delicious. From Platinum mall, cross the overhead bridge, walk straight and turn right into the first small lane. You’ll not miss the shop because it has a consistent long queue outside it. Their opening timing is 9.00am-3.00pm.

After the first meal, it was shop till we dropped at the 1st 3 level of Pratunam mall. To be honest, the 1st 3 level stuff are better in quality and designs are better than those on the other floors. But for tall built girls like me, it’s hard to really get clothing a that fit me. They do not allow trying so bring along a measuring tape to measure and see if the top/bottom fits you. The shops will close at 5.00pm daily, so we went to food court for a quick meal. You have to purchase a card and top up value into it before you can purchase any food at the food court. The Tom yum tasted very good, one of my Favourite!

First stop after shopping was to AfterYou cafe located at ground floor of Siam Paragon. We took a Tuk-Tuk over as the traffic was quite bad. They do provide free drinks so you can just order a toast and take the free drinks. We did not know about the free drinks until we were seated and the milk tea that we ordered, it was too sweet for both our liking. But the toast was really nice, it has a taste combination of sweet and savory.

Second meal was to MBK for Boo’s Favourite MK restaurant for the duck meat and steamboat. Do take note that they have recently relocated to level 7 instead.

We took a tuk-tuk back to Central world to check out Melissa shoe at Jelly Beams. We didn’t managed to make it in time, the shops were closed by the time we reached. So we went to the night market for some shopping outside Central World Mall. Saw some flea market where they sell a lot of handmade items. The prices ain’t that cheap but I guess for handmade real leather, you can’t expect too low a price. I managed to bag home some cute accessories and a unique wooden leather bag. After we were done shopping, we walked over to Pallidium where there’s a small handicraft market too. Walking down the shop houses(opposite of Big C Supermarket), there is a whole stretch of massage parlor. I prefer the second shop and another by the name of 99 massage after trying 3 shops out. The massage cost 200baht for 1hour of foot massage and it was so comfortable that we fall asleep.

We tabaoed back Tom yum soup from the night street food stall near Central World, we like the food from the first stall, taste very delicious!

We started second day with A&W breakfast, this A&W is located about 2-3 malls away from platinum mall, the name of the mall is Pantip Mall. Brings back childhood memory.

Went back to the flea market outside Central Mall to continue our shopping there.

Walked back to our hotel for the free Tuk-Tuk service to BTS. You have to go to the counter and tell the person which station you want to travel to, then they will change the coin for you to put into the machine and purchase the ticket. We are going to Karmakamet Cafe which I call it the home of “King Candy Floss”. Take a train to Phrom Phong BTS station and it’s a 7 minutes walk over. Just open your google map and it’ll bring you there. Alternatively, look out for exit 3, find a Tiffany and Co shop outside the shopping mall. It’s along the way there. The food tasted so-so but I guess the mainlight was the ambience of the place and the giant candy floss. They do sell very nice essential oil as well so you can go take a look.

Nearest BTS: Phrom Phong

Our next stop was Rod Fai Night Market. This is not a place that many will go but I do highly recommend this place for anybody who wants to try out traditional night market eating and shopping. Not forgetting the vintage shops that sells anything vintage and the many vintage vehicles parked all over the place for you to take photos with. This place is a little hard to come by via public transport so we cabbed over from On Nut BTS.

After all the walking, it’s back to our usual foot massage follow by a seafood supper at the usual night market street near central world mall. Cheap and good food, really love how adorable and delicious the food were.

Our first stop for the day was GreyHound cafe, it is supposingly to be one of the most famous cafe after AfterYou. We walked in from Thong Lor BTS which we regretted because it’s a long 18 minutes walk under the hot sun. Alternatively you can take a cab in from On Nut BTS. The food prices are very reasonable. Tried the steak salad, mini pork rib and watermelon shake. Tasted very nice and unique.

Hopped over to another theme cafe by the name 24 owls by sometimes. It’s an OWL theme cafe which is a perfect place for #ootd and the whole place is so nicely decorated by owls. If you have time, this is a place worth visiting.

The next cafe was One Ounce for Onion, which us located 5 minutes away. This is a unique cafe which serves waffles with Popsicle. The taste of this is a combination of sweet and savory, something very unique. Definitely worth a try.

We took the BTS to Victory Monument to have the local Boat Noodles (Kuay Tiau Rua). This noodle used to be sold along the river on boat but now it has evolved into a shopfront selling the noodles. The noodle cost 10baht per bowl, I read up and saw how some people can eat up till 15-20 bowls at a ago. They have different variety of choices and we tried all. The beef soup noodle tasted the best in my opinion. If you would like to try some local food, you can’t miss coming here.

Took a cab back for our favorite activity: Foot Massage! After that, we went to the handicraft market outside Padillium Mall. We had fun doing all sort of customized items. We spotted many items that were selling for a lower price as compared to Singapore. It was our last night and we were too tired to head out for supper. Bought back cup noodle and hard boiled egg for supper.

Checked out of hotel in my #airportootd. Went to eat the wanton mee for the last time and I’m so happy that they have plenty of pig intestine that day.

Really had a great time in Bangkok, definitely going back again very soon!
